There’s gold in them thar hills folks, and it’s our water.
The modern rush is on and it’s happening all around us.
The thing is we, the people who live on the land, who pay taxes for the land,
are being pushed out of the public consideration for what’s taken from the land.
It’s a classic battle: the public trust versus the private profit, community utilities
versus multinational corporations.
This film examines the purchasing of water rights in communities, across countries
and continents, for the single purpose of making money. Lots of it. As the Earth’s
clean water supply plunges, a handful of global corporations and profiteers are
rushing in to privatize this vital natural resource. What is the hidden cost
of selling our water and our control of it? Do we get what the corporations “promise”
in the exchange —— infrastructure, access, healthy environment
—— at what cost to our lives and bottom lines?

Winning every award in it's category, Joe Berlinger's "Crude" is the real life version of "the Amazon's Avatar", a contemporary battle of David vs. Goliath. The 30,000 indigenous people of Ecuador are caught up in the largest legal drama played out against Chevron (formerly Texaco). Most poignant is the examination of changing how international business is conducted, while focusing on how the human condition stands after decades of fossil fuel contamination of land, air and water. Join us to discuss how this relates to what is happening all across the U.S., as well as the potential battle locally.

________________________________________________________________________________ February Trailers The second movie in our Water Series is called "The Waterfront".
The people of Cape Ann live on the Salty Water's Edge with many deep and rich water resources abound. What if you could no longer afford to use the largest body of fresh water at your side?
This is the true story of Highland Park, Michigan, an American city in crisis but it is not just about water. The story touches on the very essence of our democratic system and is an unnerving indication of what is in store for residents around the world facing their own water struggles.
The film raises questions such as: Who determines the future of shared public resources? What are alternatives to water privatization? How will we maintain our public water systems and who can we hold accountable?
